Brown was/is initially a powerhouse in the Afro-Future literature movement. The worlds, ideas, communities she wrote of were so powerful and thoughtful that they were often used as a groundwork for social change as well as end-goals. Many of the ideas in her novels have been utilized in organizing groups - specifically in Black- folks focused work, POC movements as well as sex worker advocacy. This particular book is a collection of essays from Brown and friends around re-framing the way we look at movements and allowing and accepting pleasure as being centered within the work we do (with emphasis on pleasure being parallel to work as opposed to an add-on). A particular theme that REALLY struck me was ideas around historically marginalized groups engaging in pleasure through in sex, masturbation and/or drug use can actually be seen revolutionary acts when we consider that our pleasure and joy has frequently been signaled as something we do "not" deserve. ***Note: this book does not emphasize kink or fetish specifically, BUT it very much feeds into and reflects the power of engaging in "Taboo" behavior in a positive way and celebrating that (obviously as long as consent is tied in). Very, very, VERY, V E R Y much recommended.
